Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG13.11.23. 20 HP. REAR AXLE - X.4256. After the failure of the 20 HP. Rear Axle Pinion under normal conditions in Spain, we have carried out a test running a 20 HP. car full power, maximum torque on 1st. speed on the dynamometer. After 5 hrs. 50 mins. running under this condition, the axle failed. We found on examination all the teeth were stripped off the rear axle pinion. We are continuing the tests to obtain comparative values of rear axle with fine pitch gears, with coarse pitch gears and also fine and coarse pitch gears with the pinions made of air hardened steel. The axle which we have damaged on the dynamometer was 13/60 fine teeth. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
