Referring to EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 4/T.118.25 the position at the moment is, in regard to the points raised by Rg. {Mr Rowledge} -

1. This matter was raised from this office directly with R. {Sir Henry Royce} early on in the EAC. experiment. A number of proposals were made, but the only modification that R would agree to was coning the hole inside the cover to approximately 60% larger than its original diameter.

These cones are actually in existence on all parts at present being made.

We will take up the matter with West WitteringHenry Royce's home town and see if they are in agreement with increasing the depth of the boss inside the cones somewhat, so as to double the amount of coning on the inside face of the hole, in order to try and make the replacement of the cover easier.

2. Dynamo Commutator End Cover.

The fact that an external pawl is fitted, is, in our opinion, a sufficient indication of two things:-

a {Mr Adams} /- That the cover has to be turned to be removed.

b/- That the direction of rotation must, of course, be in the direction that a pawl or catch is intended to prevent motion.

3. In regard to Item 3, we do not think that we could go to a die casting at this point, as they are particularly brittle, and the parts would not be likely to be as accurate in their finish and inclination as the pressings.

I do not think it is any use raising this point with West WitteringHenry Royce's home town.
