FWB To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} & Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} ORIGINAL R R3/M19.8.22. c. to CJ. c. to HD.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} RE. FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. X4428 Owing to having been over the ground so many times we have made rapid progress in the last attempt at getting an arrangement of axle brake drum etc which promises well. It will require a slight modification to the frame: at the same time we have introduced the features necessary for the present frame to carry an engine with anti-vibration suspension. Will you kindly get us from 3 to 6 frames so altered. I am hoping to have this modification on experimental test in less than 6 months - the drawings of the axle and other parts will leave Wittering next week. We shall not touch Perrots patent. We may touch the Hotchkiss patent. (This is thought to be very narrow and somewhat different to ours.) We should be able to patent our own. Axle operation. (Will you kindly get experts to go into this when you receive Mr.Day's drawing - Messrs Claremont Haynes & Co. should confirm your decision.)
