To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. 20th September 1934. 28 - EX. Your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 16/KW.17.9.34 received. I am sorry my report of the 14/9/34 is not clear with regard to the front engine support. The fitting of central front engine support definitely cures 80% of the clutch jaggers. It did not make the engine rougher or increase booms. I did not report on booms in test 1 and 2 because they have not been affected, but when we carried out No 3 test, they were apparent, so we confirmed Nos. 1 and 2 again to make certain. With regard to the torque reaction dampers, we tried them from no load up to choc-a-bloc for results of booms only, and after satisfying ourselves that they made no difference to booms, we then tried different loads for the best compromise of wing movement and engine roughness. The torque reaction dampers are a factor in engine roughness. Re Front Tyres. The last pair of front tyres fitted have not worn with that peculiar scrubbing effect. they are wearing out quite normal. we assume that the friction in the pivots has decreased during the 15,000 miles and is not so having the same effect on the tyres.
