Copy. No/B3212. Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence 3rd February 1912. Members of the Technical Committee Re Axles. Mr Royce thinks we should try one of our standard axles having the bevel teeth cut down to 1" wide The reduction should, of course, be made on the inside. [Handwritten note:] not needed now, was to be a deflection caused from bending which would be dangerous Mr Royce thinks the ground clearance of the worm axle could be improved by putting the thrust bearing at the front instead of at the rear as at present and using a shaft of reduced diameter at the rear fitted with a heavy type ball journal bearing. Thus - (2) [Diagram with handwritten annotations:] Final gear. Thrust bearing decrease dia say 5/7" a slight mistake to have solid out more clear on gears FHR reduce shaft He thinks the ground clearance needs 935/135 wheels, and wishes us to fit these as standard for worm axles. [Handwritten note:] Still think this may be needed [Handwritten note in left margin:] X141 3 | ||
