'SS{S. Smith}' CONTROLS ON STEERING COLUMN. X.7240 X.7430

Replying to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/E16.1.29, we had made some progress with a design for lowering the controls on the steering wheel, but dropped it to attend to the various weaknesses shewn up in SS.{S. Smith} on the bumping rig and the road.

We have now reverted to it and expect to be able to send a print to R.{Sir Henry Royce} next week.

We have never had any indication from R.{Sir Henry Royce} of the lines on which he wished us to proceed, and in consequence it is possible there will be some difficulty in getting the final design through. The scheme we have however greatly reduces the height, and as far as we have gone looks as though it would make a possible job.
