For attention of Mr. Hickling.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 21st, and for sending the 35 m.m. bearing after 500 hours on the test rig. In view of the excellent condition of the ball tracks we wonder whether it would not be better to reduce slightly the angle of contact, thereby being able to fit a cage of deeper section. Will you let us have your views on this matter ?

Just at the moment we are more interested in eliminating cage failures on the Bentley 30 m.m. bearing, and suggest a run of 100 hrs. on H1 Press oil in conjunction with a steel cage would provide data for a bearing we could use if the necessity arose. We suggest this having in mind that the only cage to complete successfully a 10,000 miles road test was steel lubricated with E.P. oil.

We are ourselves testing the qualities of H1 Press oil for hypoid gears.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
