To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X2758 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/LG2. 2. 23. INDUCTION PIPES X.1692 X.4227. X.2758. We have succeeded in making an induction pipe w ith the carburetter fitted on the exhaust side of the engine to equal the results obtained on the present standard pipe as regards distribution and power. At the high speeds we get 5 to 6% more power. We are sending a report on this pipe. We suggest now that "Seagull" inlet and exhaust passages have been arranged in a similar way to the Goshawk instead of separate induction inlets, it would be better if we transferred our experiments of induction pipes on to the Marmon engine. This engine has the inlet and exhaust ports arranged in a similar manner to the 'Seagull'. The same cylinders have the common inlet ports but the exhaust starts on the outside ports. We shall shortly be running this engine on the Test Bench. We shall first of all try it with its present standard induction pipes and carburetter and then try a pipe as suggested for the 'seagull'.
