To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} 1116 HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}5.2.38. CRANKSHAFTS IN .4 CARBON STEEL. With reference to the above, we are advised that the two stampings ordered for Wraith are going through with a batch for Production and should be available in about a week's time. In the case of Phantom III, however, there will be considerable delay unless we are prepared to meet the extra charge for setting up dies specially to make the one carbon steel stamping, sufficient V.C.M. stampings being available to satisfy Production requirements for some time to come. The English Steel Corporation have been asked to submit a quotation in order that we may know exactly what extra cost is involved; this is not yet to hand.
