Messrs. Ransome & Marles,
NEWARK.

For attention Mr. Hickling.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you very much for ringing up to let us know the results of the bearing test, and are very pleased to hear the increased capacity bearing is doing so well.

We have checked over the external dimensions of the 6 bearings you have sent us and find them extremely accurate. Normally our housing is ground to 2.8343 + .o" dia. To fit your bearing we increased this to 2.8346". We should be glad to know your views on the fit that is required here, particularly whether it is fatal for the bearing to be tight. We imagine, however, that if we decide to fit your bearing as a replacement in existing axles, when conditions do not permit the housing to be altered you could supply bearings with a - .0002" tolerance of 2.834" dia. or whatever figure you consider correct.

In view of your report on the bearing we are road testing we think we will complete 10,000 miles on the road before examining the bearing, and then do a further 5 or 10,000 miles if the condition is satisfactory. It will therefore be about a fortnight before we bring the bearing to you for examination.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
