| X214 To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}2/KW.13.4.34. CON. ROD FAILURE ON UNIT B.6. We have recently had a Con. Rod failure on the test bed on unit B.6. This failure has scrapped the crankcase top half and cylinder block. The centre plate of the standard crankshaft damper on this engine is also broken. Will you please re-build this unit to standard in all respects except that we want the crankshaft timing gear pinion to be interchangeable from the standard damper to the new spring drive and damper to LEC.3602. For this purpose the crankshaft pinion requires a small chamfer on its forward face. In particular we want the crankshaft at present fitted to the unit to be scrapped and a standard crankshaft to be used in the re-built unit. We have returned the unit to the shop.
