The little MARMON 8 Specifications

MOTOR—Eight cylinders in line, cast en bloc; overhead valves, cylinder head removable; bore and stroke, 2¾" x 4"; piston displacement, 190.067 cubic inches; S. A.{Mr Adams} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} horse-power, 24.2; brake horse-power, 64 at 3200 R.{Sir Henry Royce} P. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Crankshaft, 5 main bearings, 2¾"; 5-bearing camshaft. Modulator. Marmon manufacture.

WHEELBASE—116 inches.

FRAME—Six-inch channel section side members; tubular and channel section cross members; heavy steel running boards held to frame by steel brackets riveted to side members. Exceedingly rigid.

SPRINGS—Semi-elliptic; front, 38⅝" long; rear, 56⅜" long; metal shackles are eliminated by mounting spring ends in husky rubber knuckles, or shock insulators; no lubrication required; no rattles and will last the life of the car.

TIRES—Balloon 29 x 5.25, for a 19" rim.

FRONT AXLE—Reverse-Elliot type I-Beam drop forging, especially designed for four-wheel brakes. Steering system—semi-irreversible cam and lever; all steering linkage joints are of ball and socket type.

REAR AXLE—Semi-floating hypoid spiral bevel gear type; Hotchkiss drive; Universal joints—all metal, oil tight.

BRAKING SYSTEM—Four-wheel mechanical self-energizing type brakes. Both foot pedal and hand lever operate all four brakes.

TRANSMISSION—In unit with engine; selective and interlocking, 3 speeds forward and 1 reverse. Gears nickel steel. Clutch—single dry plate, mounted on flywheel. Positive and easy acting, seldom requiring adjustment.

LUBRICATION—Positive force feed by gear-type pump; special provision made for lubricating cylinder walls immediately upon starting motor; pressure upon starter pedal automatically opens valve, which supplies small quantity of oil to each cylinder wall immediately. Automatically shut off after engine is started. Oil purification by Wall filter, which removes carbon and abrasives.

IGNITION—Delco-Remy, 3-unit system. 100 ampere hour battery. Manual and automatic spark advance.

COOLING SYSTEM—Capacity, 4½ gallons; cellular radiator; centrifugal type pump driven through flexible coupling on generator shaft.

FUEL SYSTEM—Tank at rear of chassis, 12-gallon capacity: vacuum feed.

INSTRUMENTS—Grouped at center of instrument board, in-direct illumination. Speedometer, electric clock, oil pressure gauge, engine heat indicator, ammeter and electric gasoline gauge. Fedeo theft protection plate mounted at left of instrument board.

EQUIPMENT—Includes Lovejoy hydraulic shock absorbers, front rubber cushioned double bar bumper, rear double bar bumperettes, one spare rim, vacuum type windshield cleaner, cigar lighter, top boot and side curtains on open cars, Yale transmission lock on all types; door locks, tonneau lights and reading lights in closed cars.
