For the attention of Mr.Martin-Hurst.

Dear Sirs,

As arranged in our discussion with Mr.Martin-Hurst, we are to-day returning to you the sample thermostat to EB.3509 fitted with "Alumbro" bellows which has had its charge released. Will you please recharge and re-set it without altering the bellows free length and send it to us by return if possible.

We have now fitted a window to the thermostat outlet cover, and note that the water hammer effect is coincident with an oscillation of the thermostat valve in closing - the valve runs about .025 off its seat most of the time and periodically opens about .200 and then rapidly closes again. It does not appear as if the bellows top plate cuts off the bypass but we are re-checking this point.

Will advise you of further turns which the investigation may take.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
Experimental Dept.
