| - 6 - NOISY TAPPETS. Handwritten note: These are probably faulty tappets due to irregular spacing of the slots. 1.. 9..1..45-RC.{R. Childs}Complaint.Mileage 18500 Kms. Cured by fitting new rollers & pins to No.5 & 10 tappets together with changing one push rod, the ball end of latter being slack in tube. The above rollers & Pins showed a considerable amount of wear. 2.. 122-MC.Mileage 10000 Kms.Cured by fitting 1 new roller & Pin to tappet No.1 to overcome knock. 3.. 58-SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}Complaint Mileage 3000 Kms.Pronounced knock from No.5 tappet.Knock only overcome by fitting a new tappet complete.Original tappet appeared O.K. when examined,could not trace cause of same being noisy. 4.. 42-DC.Complaint Mileage 5300 Kms.Only cured by fitting 4 new tappets complete to No.1,3,7,& 9 positions.No.7 push rod replaced,original found to be bent. 5.. 44-LC.Complaint. Mileage 4250 Kms.Cured by fitting new pins & rollers to No.1,2 & 12 tappets. Original tappets rollers & pins slightly worn. 1 new tappet fitted to No.6 to overcome pronounced knock. 6.. 68-HC.Complaint.Mileage 16000 Kms.Cured by fitting 12 new pins & rollers,original all found to have a considerable amount of wear. Tappets were very noisy on this particular engine. 7.. 104-LC.Complaint.Mileage 11000 Kms.Cured by fitting 3 new pins & rollers to overcome light knocks. 8.. 46-RC.{R. Childs}Mileage not recorded.Tappet mechanism in general was found to be very noisy.When all tappets were dismantled for tappet spring modification,all pins & rollers found to be slack.We decided to fit all new rollers & pins so as not to be in trouble after all parts had been erected & necessitate dismantling again. Engine afterwards found O.K. 9.. 97-LC.Complaint.Mileage 9500 Miles.Cured by giving tappets correct clearance.Trouble caused by incorrect tappet adjustment. | ||
