To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c.c. to CJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X3435 E1/M23.12.24. RE. GROANS ON STANDARD CHASSIS. X.3435 X.1511 In reply to your memo. BY10/H19.12.24., MR. Stent has reported separately in AJS1/M22.12.24., on the position of the design. We should like to know more about what is referred to as 'groans'. These have never been reported by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} He has only complained about periods in the transmission and has demonstrated down here that with a fabric coupling these are practically damped out. It has yet to be shewn that a fabric coupling cures groans, though we should expect it to do so from the result obtained by HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} with the old spring damped coupling.
