1180 Experimental Dept. 18th December 1936. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}9/AP. J.N.Longley Esq., Messrs Ferodo Ltd., CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH. Dear Mr.Longley, In October of last year you sent us some servo discs - 12 off in S.5584 and 12 off in S.5775. We have now run a considerable mileage on the S.5775 (RAD.13. type) and have had absolutely no trouble due to the splines, so we have standardised this lining on our 25/30 HP. and Bentley. In the case of the S.5584 which you submitted as a non-squeak VM.30 type, we have had about 8000 miles experience on this without any trouble from squeaks, and with noticeably less fade than S.5775. We now wish to do some extensive continental running on this type but have, unfortunately, exhausted our stock. Will you please send us a further 12 discs identical to the previous ones i.e. to our Ex.17177 in S.5584. An official order will follow. Our servo testing rig is now employed on other work so we have been unable to obtain μ temperature curves. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
