Dear Sirs, We are despatching to you to-day one 500 c.c. racing engine which you have ordered from us for experimental purposes. It has been erected with a compression ratio of 7.25 - 1 and 50% petrol 50% benzol fuel is recommended. For light running a Lodge H53 plug is suitable, but for full throttle work a BR51 is necessary; one of each type is being sent with the engine. A vegetable oil is recommended, such as Castrol R or Mobiloil R.{Sir Henry Royce} Apart from motoring the engine after contacting the oil supply to start the oil circulating, no running in will be found necessary. To facilitate starting, a exhaust lifter with cable and lever has been fitted to the engine. When your engineers visited the undersigned the question of size and length of exhaust pipes was discussed, but we are uncertain whether you wish us to supply any pipes with the engine. The best all round results are obtained with 1½" x 16 gauge pipes having a cubic capacity of 1100 - 1200 c.c. This method of Contd.... | ||
