202 W/K.{Mr Kilner} KC. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}4/R.13.2.37. BENTLEY REAR AXLE. With regard to the item in the Quarterly Complaints headed "Oil leaks from Rear Axle Casing", we should be glad if you would give us some more information on this subject:- (1) Does the oil leak between the axle tube and centre case take place on both sides of the car ? and is the leak always between the tube and end plate and never between the end plate and aluminium centre casing ? (2) Have you had any trouble on cars which have grover washers instead of flat washers, as per the Depot Sheet dealing with this trouble? (3) Do the leaks of the pinion housing occur through oil getting past the acme thread, or, are they due to the oil leaking past the many joints of the steel ball race housing axle box and washers, etc ?
