Y 4523. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.5/KT. Your ref. E.2. Messrs S.Smith & Sons, Cricklewood Works, London. N.W.2. January 1st,1932. For the attention of Mr. Russell. Dear Sir, Re. Electric Petrol Gauges. We thank you for your letter of the 28th. inst and hope our 20 gallon petrol tank has now arrived. With reference to Mr.Mainwaring's visit on Wednesday, we should prefer to use the "Earth Return" type petrol gauge if it can be adapted for our petrol tank. At present the best place for the head of the gauge appears to be the one we first suggested to Mr.Mainwaring, where the head is below the level of the petrol. We should like your opinion of the action of the gauge when immersed in petrol. If the gauge is above the petrol level the gauge is still filled with petrol vapour. We understand Mr. Mainwaring is calling here next Monday. If it is convenient for him to bring the working model of the "Earth Return" type gauge which he had with him on Wednesday, we should be grateful. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LTD. | ||
