We have already sent to you N.Sch.4886 showing the Bentley III front brakes, pivot and stub axle. Subsequently we have been asked to make a design which will accept both Girling and R.R. brakes. On N.Sch.4962 herewith we show a scheme for fitting Girling front brakes. This adaptation has called for certain modifications to N.Sch.4886 and these have been enumerated on the drawing. We have been forced to use the Wraith II road wheel but fitted of course, with the 6" tyre. This has modified the length of the stub axle, but the design of the pivot remains unchanged. As far as the brakes are concerned the adjuster is a Girling piece, whilst the wedge and its housing are Girling with the exception that the wedge is lengthened to provide an operation suitable for independent suspension. The brake shoes and the linkage to prevent self servo action are taken from the Girling designs. On N.Sch.4963 herewith also, we show how the R.R. brakes, as already sent to you on N.Sch.4886 can be fitted to the design of stub axle and wheel shown on N.Sch.4962. It will be noticed that the only new piece is the carrier plate assembly. With the receipt of the drawing showing the necessary bosses on the yoke piece, which we hope to send you in the course of a day or so, you will now have received complete instructions for the Bentley III front suspension so designed as to provide for both RR. or Girling brakes.
