X4086 To C.J. from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BJ. Worl/LG27.4.22. GOSHAWK 10,000 MILES TRIALS' CAR. This car has arrived in Derby this morning along with Messrs. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} I have had a conference with Messrs. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} this morning and it is considered necessary to dismantle the car for thorough examination and to replace any parts of defective design, broken parts, or unsatisfactory parts, by improved parts, but in no case interfere with the general condition of the car, that is to say, not in any way repair the car or take up any normal wear. We think that quicker progress from a production point fo view, will be accomplished by this method. It is considered important to get our Designers and D.O. concentrating on those parts that must be definitely altered and after examination of this car as a 10,000 miles car, to speedily modify it, then it will be ready to do any other work that is considered necessary. In the meantime 6-Goshawk-11 is continuing to run another 10,000 miles in France and we are doing all possible to modernise this car with improved parts as we get designs through as learned by the experience we have gained on the 10,000 miles already run, and the condition this car is in when dismantled. We trust that you will be in agreement with this programme. We are convinced that it will make for quicker progress this way. There is rather another important point, that now the car is here, it will save time to have a thorough examination and to replace faulty parts with improved parts. You will realise that immediately we get the car ready again, it can leave Derby one day and be at Laval the next. We are not pulling this car to pieces for examination until we receive from you instructions that you agree with our policy. Would you kindly let us know your decision at the earliest moment.
