2 351,726 lapped joint as in the previous construc- tion. Hence the upper section 1 is shown as furnished with a projecting tongue 9 to 5 engage a groove in the lower section 2. In the particular construction illus- trated cooling jackets are shown at 11 but it will be understood that any other arrangement may be provided without de- 10 parting from this invention. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of our said inven- tion and in what manner the same is to be performed, we declare that what we claim is :— 15 A divided liner for the cylinder of a reciprocating engine—particularly suit- able for double-acting internal combustion engines—in which the engaging ends of the liner sections are stepped or flanged, the abutting edges of the inner flanges 20 being of irregular or wave-like form, whilst the abutting edges of the surround- ing outer flanges lie in a plane at right angles to the cylinder axis, whereby the two sections are maintained in proper 25 alignment even when cold.
