Huckerby} 25.1.38. BENTLEY III REAR SHOCK DAMPERS. The first car will be fitted with a pair of bought out Armstrong dampers suitable for rod control. However, since it is decided to use hydraulic control for B.III we need a design incorporating a bellows control in the rear damper. As the rear dampers are far easier to remove than the built in dampers on the front suspension, we think money should be saved by not using a detachable complete bellows valve unit as on the front damper. With the Armstrong dampers as now fitted to B.III the oil filter plug is inaccessible. From looking at a number of Delco damper casings we find that all drillings are arranged so that no plugging of ends is required. This has the advantage of reduction in cost and decreased the chances of oil leaks. As the rear damper is already behind the rest of the car, we should be glad if this item could have attention.
