X.3777 RE 1905 20 HP. TOURIST TROPHY CARS; ETC.

The rectangular section inlet valve springs fitted to the 20 HP. Tourist Trophy car down here were not satisfactory, badly hardened etc, and have failed on several occasions. These springs should be replaced on this type of engine ( i.e. 10 HP. 15 HP. 30 HP. - original RR.- ) wherever any trouble is experienced, or when opportunity arises, by the double springs or round section wire (to R.1096) which have been fitted to the car here, and appear to be much more satisfactory. The stresses in this type of spring will be much better distributed than in the rectangular type.

The only modification to the engine necessary is that the machined recess in the inlet valve cage to receive the spring end must be slightly increased in diameter to accommodate the round wire spring, and naturally the new washer giving a spigot for both springs must be supplied with the new pattern springs.

It is understood that Capt. Burt would like to have the above car for his inspection duties. Mr. Day can now spare it because he can use the Delage until something else is available.

A few other parts have been improved including the suspension of the radiator, which is not near so likely to leak in the future.
