R.W.D. ---------------- HDY. {William Hardy} 1/HP.13.6.33. ---------------- Roller Bearings. --------------- With reference to our recent conversation about roller bearings with grooves in both inner and outer races, we are proposing to use centre bearings of this type on the new J.3. gearbox. The rollers will have no endwise duty except to retain the outer races in place, and as these will be a push fit in their housings, much endwise load should be impossible. Would you kindly give us, if possible, the answers to the following questions:- (1) Can bearings of the double grooved type be supplied with the same number and size of rollers as used on the normal bearing. (2) Bearings such as required by (1) will presumably have a slot in each race for the insertion of the rollers. Are these slots detrimental for the taking of end thrust.? (3) Do the makers guarantee the same load capacity as for normal roller bearings, and what percentage of normal load can be applied as end thrust? HDY. {William Hardy} | ||
