QUARTERLY COMPLAINTS. Quarter ending 31.3.30.
40/50 HP. PHANTOM.
Nature of Complaint. | No. of Cars. | Last Qtr's. Total. | Remarks.
Brakes Squeaking. | W. 9. N. 10. P. 3. Total 22. | 57. | No permanent cure has yet been found. Experiments are being continued. A temporary cure may be obtained by doping with a small quantity of turpentine. A change of position of the damper spring, and re-bedding the liners make a temporary cure. No advance since last quarter.
Boiling Complaints. | W. 19. N. 46. P. 8. Total 73. | 62. | We have had one or two cases of wide gap tubes becoming partially blocked and causing overheating. Experiments with galvanised cylinders and iron oxide are being made.
Coupling Fabric Failures. | W. 5. N. 7. P. -. Total 12. | 15. | A modification in production is being carried out on Phantom II - See Depot Sheet No. Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 163. We think that failures on Phantom I can be charged for, as they do not give trouble as a rule under 20,000 miles.
