| DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 2/CB5-4-21. contd. We have shewn an alternative method for retaining the spring, which appears to us to be rather less work. On the whole, we think that the arrangement shewn on 815A is likely to be the best. In connection with this joint, there appears to be difficulty in getting the bushes out once they have been driven in. It is considered that you may have intended that the joint should not be taken to pieces, but that a new joint should be used if a defective one were discovered. But in case this is not so we have considered how the bushes may be got out and in Fig I of 815 we have shewn the pieces being tapped out by a drift inserted through a hole in the star piece, and either in conjunction with this, or an alternative to it being prised out by means of a notch on the open side of the jaw, this suggestion being intended to be applied also to LeC.1363. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Since writing the above we have seen the wooden model finished, and from this it appears that a hole drilled in the side of the bush in the jaw gap would enable the bush to be prised out.
