| X4117 EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C-Sft. {Mr Swift} C-Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} BY4/H. 12.10.25. CHASSIS 88-HG. VONCK. -------------------- Referring to EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} /Thn6/H. 6.10.25. I cannot see any reason why 88-HG. should be different from any other car. Our experience does not lead us to believe that after every 17,000 miles a new nut would be required. We do not wish this remark to be construed as meaning that the nut was changed unnecessarily, but rather that something peculiar must have happened to the car in question. The most obvious thing that one would turn to would be that the lubrication had been inadequate. An examination of the nut gives one the impression that it has not been well lubricated, or a poor type of lubricating oil has been used. This conclusion is arrived at on my part by the fact that the nut is covered with a coating of oxidised oil. In regard to EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 's request for an assurance that the same thing will not happen again, I can only remind him of what he himself already knows, namely, that we have turned out some five or six thousand cars with a similar nut, and that complaints are extremely rare.
