W.A.Robotham Esq.,
Messrs Rolls-Royce Limited.
DERBY.

Dear Robotham,

Why the sudden interest renewed or otherwise in Ventilation.

We agree that dragging the fumes into the carburettor is not a good thing.

It is our opinion that the fumes should be abstracted from the case by the motion of the car and that any device that will maintain a crank case depression of 1/4 to 5/8 water, will effectively extract. Baffling for oil loss does not appear difficult and you are certain to help in the matter of oil leaks, assuming for the moment you have them.

Ventilating by air draught, forced or sucked through, we feel is bad from the standpoint of washing dirty air with the contents of our oil sump.

We measure the depression as a differential between flywheel housing pressure and crankcase pressure.

With the Bedford we use an air catcher which looks like a trumpet and you already know all about it. You will be interested to learn that our general field picture on bore wear is much improved.

I am going to the U.S. in time for the New York Show - Anything I can do for you?

Yours sincerely,

ALEX TAUB.
