Dear Taub,

I am at the moment taking a renewed interest in crankcase breathing, with the object of reducing the amount of sludge which we seem to collect in our oil. Do you know of any test which has been established to accurately measure the relative efficiency of the crankcase breathing system? Do you consider connecting the crankcase up to the air intake to be a feasible means of securing ventilation?

In our experience we have always found it is almost too difficult to prevent excessive quantities of oil being extracted from the crankcase.

Some day I hope to be able to give you some figures on cylinder bore wear covering a range of materials, pistons and conditions, but the job takes so long that it is possible we may both be dead before it is completed.

Yours sincerely,
