FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM 258 358 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. For the attention of W.A.Robotham, Esq. 14th. October, 1936. (Dict. 13th). Dear Sirs, I regret the delay in forwarding you comparative details of Wire and Spoked Disc wheel weights. As explained, it is a difficult matter to compare these types of wheels in the same rim sizes, as in most instances a Wire wheel with 17" or 18" rim is replaced with the 16" Spoked Disc equipment. We have, however, collected some weights which are directly comparable, and which it is hoped may provide the information required. With the exception of the 3.00x16 Wire wheel figure, which is estimated, the figures are taken from actual production. We have, as far as possible, endeavoured to make these figures representative over the various types of wheel. 3.00x16 Single piece Wire wheel - now a more or less obsolete fitment, but was used on such cars as M.G.Midget, Jowett and Wolseley Hornet ....... 14 1/4 lbs. 3.00x16 Spoked Disc wheel - as a suitable replacement .......................... 18 1/4 lbs. A wheel of this weight is now fitted on Jowett Cars. 4.00x16 Centre Lock wheel - 42 type shell, similar to that used by Riley ................. 17 1/4 lbs. 4.00x16 Bolt-on Disc wheel - in replacement ...... 19 3/4 lbs.
