X4244 GOSHAWK(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)) 11 - CLUTCH.

Referring to Clutch Plate G.50218, I think the Brinell figure which will give sufficient resistance to wear, whilst being easily machineable, would be 255 - 277. At any rate, these are the figures which we should add to our drawing, experimentally.

The Experimental Department should note that these figures have been purposely kept low, with the object of easing the machining, and should carefully check this point, namely, wear during experimental running.

The proposal now is, that we shall buy the plates in the forged condition, from Messrs. Firths, harden them at our Works as a first operation, and then complete machining by the most convenient methods in the usual way.
