re. Sealing of car parts & "Danger Chart" Inspection.

In view of CJ's general instructions that no cars in future are to be handed to customers, either new or after being repaired, unless a certain routine of inspection has been carried out and signed off as O.K. It has been suggested that certain features, after this inspection has taken place, such as dismantling and refixing front wheel hubs etc. should be sealed. A considerable amount of dismantling and re-erecting would would then be avoided, as inspectors who handle the cars will then realise when seeing that the seals are intact that the parts in question are O.K.

The trouble chiefly applies to new chassis or repaired chassis delivered to coachbuilders where the bodies are fixed, and according to CJ's instructions the car has again to be inspected to make sure that it complies with the 'Danger Chart'. Unless our inspector is able to assure himself by noting that the seals are intact the parts have not been interfered with, it will again be necessary for him to dismantle and re-erect certain parts to make sure that they are O.K.

We attach hereto a copy of the 'Danger Chart' referred to, and the chief feature which affects us in the above respect is the dismantling and fixing of the front hubs. This point we suggest could be dealt with under the following headings:-

1. Some slight modification might be made in design so that some simple effective sealing arrangement can be made.

2. That same sealing scheme could be arranged which could be fixed on the present design. We are now trying out a scheme for sealing the split pin holding the nut at the end of the stub axle shaft, andwould like this to be an approved job and tested out to make sure it cannot cause any harm.
