RE: MEMO Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /CR. {Mr Cra’ster / Mr Chichester} 16/MH. {M. Huckerby} 30.11.38. It has now been decided to produce the Torque Arm Upper and Lower Triangle Levers in 1% chromium steel. The composition of the steel is as follows:- .8% to 1% Chromium. .5% to .8% Manganese. .35% to .45% Carbon. These pieces should be heat treated to give a brinell of 200 to 255. Will Cgh {W Clough} /EM. kindly issue a specification to cover this material to enable BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /Ald. {F. Allwood - Experimental Design} to include it on the material chart.
