4. Bonnet very noisy.

This is a question of fitting, and we feel that after the scuttle for the body has been fixed, the bonnet should be refitted to advantage, a point we are taking up with Coachbuilders and outside depots.

5. Brakes not severe enough.

The brakes as they are at present we consider quite good, which the driver also confirms. We cannot make them any more severe without making a special job of it. We do not, however, recommend this, as at present we consider the brakes give the most satisfactory all-round results, and in making them more severe, we should probably find ourselves having other troubles, such as overheating, brakes continually rubbing, overstressing of the back axle and mechanism, etc.

6. Steering still slightly wobbly; ("I should prefer it slightly heavier")

We quite concur with this complaint, but the whole trouble we contend is due to the fitting of Warland detachable rims. We have already pointed out that these are not recommended, as apart from the fact that they are badly made and badly fitted, they cause the front wheels to be very heavy, especially at the rim of the wheel, which is very bad for satisfactory steering, and from this point alone they should not be recommended.

When trying the car with plain Dunlop wheels, the driver expressed himself quite satisfied with the steering.

The driver has requested that the car should be fitted with Michelin disc wheels. At present however we do not recommend these unless fitted with security bolts. Our present experience has shown that they are unsafe owing to the tyre coming off. This is a point which we think could be brought up to advantage at the next works conference on Wednesday 28th. inst.

We certainly think we should be in a position to recommend something to take the place of the present unsatisfactory Warland detachable rims, and consider that we should make use of the opportunity of trying them on the above car.

Until such is settled, however, every effort should be made to recommend the fitting of plain Dunlop wire wheels, until such time as we are able to recommend a scheme to Lord Rocksavage which would fulfil his particular conditions, which we understand is the fact that he desires to carry 2 wheels or rims
