Tests were then repeated with this scheme modified as originally suggested, i.e. spring arm was rotated 180° on throttle spindle and fixed in position with spring on opposite side of spindle (i.e. below spindle).
These tests were carried out in exactly the same manner as the last ones - results shown below.

Results.
Spring Length-throttle closed, 2⅜".
Load, " " " 3 lbs 9 ozs.
Load just to move against spring, suction and bearings. - 3 lbs. (mean of 10 readings)

Torques
Spring torque 3 lbs 9 ozs x ⅞ = 3.12 lbs.ins.
Torque to move throttle against spring and friction = 3 x 1.7/16 = 4.31 lbs.
∴ Frictional torque = 4.31 - 3.12 = 1.19 lbs.ins.
Excess of spring torque over frictional torque = 1.93 lbs.ins. = 162% of frictional torque.

Comparison of two schemes.
Lec.3412. Throttle closed 18" Hg. depression.
Frictional torque, 1.76 lbs.ins.
Spring torque, 3.12 lbs.ins.
Excess of spring torque over frictional torque = 77.3% of frictional torque.

Bearings Loads.
Load on bearings due to depression above throttle = 35.2 lbs.
" " " " " " = 17.6 lbs/bearing.
