Re: Chassis GGP-53.

The above car was sent out for exhibition at the Johannesburg and Pretoria Shows this year. Not being sold at the Show it was taken into use for a Tour in South Africa for propaganda purposes. The car has now been sold in Cape Town, and Crawford, the man who was in charge of it, is on his way home.

Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has asked me to send you the following extract from Crawford's Report:-

" Although the springing on this car is exceptionally good
"on town roads, in the country they come down on the buffers
"much too frequently, despite the fact that one eases up.
"Mr. Prestwick of Ficksburg has had two extra leaves put in
"his back springs and one in the front ones. Unless one has
"toured in this country it is quite impossible to realise what
"the roads are like. If you are on a good road it is quite
"good, but it suddenly ceases and you go for miles on tracks
"which have been washed out by heavy rains and never repaired.
"American cars are sprung especially for this country and it is
"amazing to think that they can average in the region of 50 m.p.h.
"over the kind of roads I have been over. I have averaged 18
"miles to the gallon of petrol, which everybody thinks except-
"ionally good."
