a perfectly rigid scuttle.

With regard to the hood, the CSC. are of the opinion that unless an allweather head, such as the Beatonson, has a stronger than the present framework, the whole body is likely to prove unsatisfactory.

We believe that Messrs. Beatonson are working on this point to try and get a more rigid hood. In the case of 7-EX, there is little doubt that the rear door pillars particularly require strengthening, and this has been done. We also believe the hinges of the rear doors would be better if stronger and possibly spaced farther apart. We understand that stronger hinges have been fitted and Barkers are considering the advisability of spacing these hinges farther apart.

The White Trials Car (7-DC) referred to in your letter, is now at Derby and will shortly be used by the Chairman for a Continental tour. Unfortunately, there will not be time to put the scuttle right before the car leaves England.

We find it a difficult matter to lay down the law in another man's factory, all the same we are invariably met with the greatest courtesy and consideration from the coachbuilders, and I can assure you personally that your criticisms are received by the coachbuilders with the greatest interest and afford them valuable matter for reflection.
