GOSHAWK(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)) 1. ENGINE FIXING. X3535
In amplification of our telegram of the 12th inst., in reply to your Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 7/LG11.5.22., the suspension tube is intended to be tightly gripped on the engine, and to slide on the oilless bushing in the front. The caps should therefore have gaps as in LeC 1345. The caps in LeC 1486 were erroneously shewn without a gap. We considered at the time the question of relative expansion of steel tube and aluminium crankcase lengthways and it was decided that the tube would have to creep through the clamp if it wanted to.
* with rise in temperature.
