Re - Ferodo Type Brakes.

J. {Mr Johnson W.M.} 22/12/14.

R. {Sir Henry Royce}

With reference to Mr. Royce's suggestion that this alteration to brakes has hung fire far too long, I am entirely in agreement with him, and think that the job should have been in progress long ago.

We have put between 30 and 40 cars on test without any brakes so as to force the pace, but unfortunately there has been a long delay in getting hold of material; in fact, we are not out of the wood by any means at the present time. Mr. Nadin has experienced the greatest difficulty in getting hold of material, and for some time it was impossible for him to place the order with anyone, owing to the great demand for War material, and at the present time Mr. Platford's Dept. is congested with cars waiting for these brakes, simply and solely because of our difficulty with manufacturers.

There is no one at the works who has not continually worried and pestered everybody about this job.

I believe Mr. Nadin is going to write to Mr. Royce further on this matter.
