| To H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} from B.J. Copies to C.G. C. Wox. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X8380 BJ5/H16.12.25. CONFIDENTIAL. CHASSIS UNDERFRAME. The following is an extract from the minutes of the Sales Conference of yesterday:- "At the time this matter was originally put forward, it was urgently desirable, on account of complaints of booming bodies. "Since the introduction of the New Phantom(Codename for PHANTOM I), these complaints have practically ceased. Therefore the urgent necessity for the use of an underframe no longer exists. "An underframe might be useful to coachbuilders, to enable them to get on further with manufacturing the body without the chassis. We understand from coachbuilders, however, that Daimlers are having considerable trouble with their underframes, and after all their experience of them, they still are unable to make them satisfactory in many respects." "We have heard that Hooper's are at their wits end in regard to the underframe of the Queen's new car. B.J. | ||
