PEREGRINE(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) BATTERIES It has been generally agreed that the existing Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) battery is too small when based on the 20 ampere hour rate of discharge. It also is not up to R.R. standard in that it has 3/32" plates and plain wood separators. The battery now proposed for this chassis is the National 6-CLD.11A and the Exide 6.XCM11-1M. These batteries, however, although of higher ampere hour capacity do not possess the long life features of the existing R.R. batteries. The National Accumulator Co. can supply us with a good compromise in the shape of a battery having 1/8" thick plates with wood and ebonite separators having a capacity of 55 ampere hours instead of the proposed 63 and compared with the existing battery capacity of 52 ampere-hours. The type of this battery is 6.BPHL-9. In order to have all the R.R. features, we should have to go to a 7-plate battery having only 47 ampere hours capacity unless we had a 2 1/2" longer battery which is undesirable. We have therefore the following alternatives :- Type 6.CL-11A - ordinary cheap 3/32" plates wood separators. Type 6.CLD-11A - ordinary cheap 3/32" plates wood and ebonite separators. Type 6.CLR-7A - long life 5/32" plates wood and ebonite separators. Type 6.BPHL-9 - medium 1/8" plates wood and ebonite separators. These are all National types of which Exide have duplicates. We recommend therefore, that we obtain three batteries from each maker as follows :- | ||
