taken to strengthen this joint when the failure occurs instead of making a similar flange which will again give trouble. The failure of the manifolds are being dealt with by increasing the clearance of the holes. There has not been a failure so far with the new design of exhaust manifold on the 25 HP.

Fabric couplings.

35-XJ. 43-WJ.

These couplings were in a very bad condition and in the case of 43-WJ with the old type of bolt, one bolt had become loose which was fortunate that it had not caused further trouble. These couplings are being replaced only when in a bad condition if no other work is being done to the gearbox. In the case of clutch trouble, the coupling is changed, if necessary, whilst the gear box is down.

Clutches.

4-WJ.

This clutch was complained of in respect of it sticking. I tried the clutch and after it had cooled down or upon first starting up from cold it would not disengage without the engine was raced up several times. It was found when dismantled to be in a very sticky condition and the fabrics had started to come adrift. This clutch was relined with the R.A.D.l. material and was very good in every respect when the car left. The doping of
