Bentley - Propeller Shaft.

Referring to your memo Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GWH. {George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 16/N.22.11.37, GB.2311 was produced in order to reduce the possibility of "Picking up" taking place between the ends of the pins, and the spherical grinding of the trunnion housings, due to:

(a) machining errors.

(b) distortion of the housing when subject to torque.

The Brinell indent is to test the hardness of the needle roller bearing surface, but a "time" is allowed for "stoning" to remove the high spots.

We are taking this matter up with the Inspection Dept.
