| X148f C. to E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ------- Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn. {Mr Robinson} 1/KT. June 15th 1933. T.C.Skinner, The S.U.Company, East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, B'ham. Dear Mr.Skinner, We are rather concerned with the restriction in the needle valves of the carburetters we are fitting to the Bentley car. The attached curve shows that the free flow at the carb. union of our petrol pump is 160 pts/hr. which is reduced to 106 pts/hr. after passing the valves in their fully open position. A lighter float would possibly enable a larger needle valve to be used without the danger of flooding. We should like your opinion, however, as to what you think is the best way of tackling the problem. With a flow of 100 pts/hr. we have a 15% margin, but to get this 100 pts/hr. we have to put up the delivery pressure of our pump from 3 lbs/sq.in. to 4.3 lbs/sq.in. so that our tendency to flood is presumably much the same as if we had a larger needle valve and the lower delivery pressure. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
