Condensers.
Re Reliability of Dubilier make.

Upon receipt of yours By7/P18.4.21, we wrote the General Electric Co.Ltd., Birmingham, informing them that we had carried out our intention of testing 12 of our own make of condensers to the same reliability test to which we subjected the batch of condensers which were left with us by Mr.Jackson and Mr.Goodman, of the Dubilier Co. when they visited us on the 2nd ult. and found that the results were almost identical, i.e., out of 12 Dubilier condensers tested, 4 failed; whereas out of 12 R.R. tested, 3 failed.

The remainder of your remarks were also suitably communicated to the General Electric Co. and copy of our letter to the G.E.C.Ltd. was sent to the Dubilier Co.

On the 23rd inst. the G.E.C.Ltd. wrote us that they would let us have their comments in the course of a day or two and on the 26th inst. the Dubilier Co.Ltd. wrote us as follows:-

"We are in receipt of your letter of the 21st inst. "enclosing copy of your letter to the General Electric "Co.Ltd. with regard to a further test you have carried "out on Condensers, and we may say that we are definitely "of the opinion that the best, and only reliable, test is "a duration test of say 15 to 30 minutes at the highest "tension which the Condenser is likely to have across it "under actual working conditions. This test is the one "we adopt for all our Wireless Condensers and has proved "entirely satisfactory. We have invariably found that "no test under conditions which are not likely to apply "in practice is satisfactory as it really proves nothing.

"We note your remarks with regard to the manufacture "of these Condensers under dustless conditions and we may "say that this is a constant care of ours and we are now "taking still further precautions in order to obtain as "dustless an atmosphere as is possible.

"We shall be glad to know the result of tests of "recent deliveries we have made to you as all the "Condensers despatched to you since the writer was at "your Works last have been tested here at 400 volts for "30 minutes."

I shall be pleased to learn what your opinion is of the test proposed by the Dubilier Co. and shall also be pleased to learn whether any of the condensers recently delivered by the Dubilier Co. have been tested by us and, ifso, with what results.
