Royce - Buyer} 6/MG22.1.36 Stromberg Carburetter for Phantom III Chassis Reverting to ROY {Mr H. Royce - Buyer} 9/MG16.12.35 (copy attached) re above, as it is evident the final design for this Carburetter is not yet complete I suggest - and with this proposal E and the Experimental Department are in agreement - that we now place an order with the Zenith Carburetter Company for 50 such Carburetters, made throughout in America, at: Approx. £7. 0. 0d Each and that the Carburetters be re-set and tested in this country by the Zenith Company on arrival, by which date doubtless we shall be in a position to tell the Zenith Company, London, our final detail requirements. Mr. Fisher, of the Zenith Company, confirms that there will be no difficulty on their part in modifying such American made Carburetters. As you are aware, the float chamber portion of this Carburetter is an extremely complicated pressure die casting, with integral jet tubes and chokes, and it is difficult to produce in any other way. It therefore appears we are tied to obtaining initial supplies from U.S.A until suitable pressure dies are available in this country and working satisfactorily. I realize that in making this suggestion to buy all American made goods we are departing from the Company's definite policy to "Buy British", but in the circumstances it would seem we have no alternative; and, seeing the time is so short, doubtless you will agree.
