COPY To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Wer. c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Proposed Stromberg Carburetter for P.III I would confirm our various conversations re above emphasizing the urgency of the matter, and state: The Zenith Company advise the earliest they could give delivery of such Carburetters, if we cable them now, would be early March - included in this time being approximately 10-14 days which the Zenith Company wish to reserve to themselves for checking and modifying such Carburetters when they arrive in this country. At present I understand the actual type of Carburetter required is not settled, so we can give the Zenith Company no instructions whatever as to whether they can proceed or otherwise. As far as cost is concerned, they want to spread their Tools over 500, and delivery over approximately a year. Based on this their prices are: Made throughout in America, but re-set and tested in this country by the Zenith Company, including all Duty, Carriage etc ............ £7. 0. 0d Similar Carburetter, partially made in this country from Die Castings ex. U.S.A........... £7.15. 0d One made throughout in this country ............ £8.10. 6d As you are aware, the Zenith Company are moving into new Works at Stanmore, Middlesex, and it will be some little time before their manufacturing arrangements are complete. I am asking the Zenith Company to give us figures for such Carburetters in smaller quantities, as from present indications it would certainly appear we shall not want 500 in the year.
