MODIFICATIONS TO BRAKE OPERATING MECHANISM.
(see memo Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} 1/AP.10.11.37).
Please receive herewith blueprints of G.CD.246 dealing with the above.
Scheme 1. Pull-off Springs - Rear Brake Equaliser.
To improve the appearance of these springs and to keep the rating low we have shown a spring with 37 coils and a minimum load of 3 lbs. instead of 14 coils and a minimum load of 4 lbs. as shown on H.Sch. 5117.
Scheme 2. Pull-off Spring - Servo Balance Lever.
To ensure that the front brakes are not pulled on before the rear brakes due to the introduction of the Springs on the rear brake equaliser (Scheme 1), we have shown a spring of 20 lbs. load attached to the lower end of the Servo Balance Lever with the other end attached to a bracket on one of the Clutch case bosses.
Scheme 3. Spring for Damper - Servo Lever.
We have shown a spring with a load of 250 lbs. and a range from 150 lbs. to 350 lbs. instead of 100 lbs. load as at present. This is required due to the introduction of the pull-off spring on the servo balance lever (Scheme 2).
Scheme 4. Stop - Front Brakes Intermediate Lever.
We wish to increase the travel of the front brakes intermediate lever from 1.625 to 1.825. This we have done by modifying the position of the stop on the Intermediate lever. We show the lever stopping on Expansion Box Anchor Plate instead of having a separate stop as shown on H.Sch.5138 and E.CD.68.
