| -2- 8th May, 1936. and starting perfect. The following are the Bentley figures. B-56-BN {W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} every mile, time 24 mins. Water Oil Air. 76°C 86°C 24°C. 78 88 24 78 88 23 81 90 23 82 90 19 83 90 17 83 95 16 81 95 14 80 95 14 80 95 12 81 92 10 83 92 10 average 80.7°C. 91.4°C 16.8°C. The Bentley was pre-igniting towards the top and continued to run after being switched off. Upon restarting slow running was good, no sign of rich mixture. There was no sign of pre-ignition with 22-C-V. {VIENNA} This concluded our days' test. We are going to take temperatures etc. with top gear work to reduce speed and obtain if possible the efficiency of the radiators. With regard to the Bentley, we have had rather severe front brake jagger. It is serious. In my opinion the spring loaded axle control is the cause, and I am going to make the bottom bearing choc-a-bloc. We know definitely that any looseness in the axle control produces brake jagger. We had signs of it on the 2B and found slack in the top ball joint, since making this O.K. there has not been the least sign. We lost a little time on the test because I was too ill to carry on.
